Hero’s Journey Stage II-The Resurrection

When a hero experiences a resurrection he becomes a different person, this could be brought on by new knowledge gained from his quest.

The hero often becomes the plot of the story because his development into a more mature person is paramount to the lives of others.

In the Harry Potter series, Harry always returned home with more understanding about his parents, himself, or Voldemort.

In the Bone series, Bone’s brother is often faced with greedy temptations, but at the end of the series he leaves behind a chest of gold to save someone he barely knows.

Hero’s Journey stage 10, The Road back.

Since the hero has a road towards his goal he also has a road back.  Once he is done he may accomplish his goal, get the girl, or celebrate. Then he has to become dedicated to whatever outcome is possible. But he might be called a liar, and never attain full appreciation for his actions. Maybe the villain has created a disease to which he has the cure, he might also be chased by the villain.

In the Harry Potter series, Harry has to return to the muggle world at the end of the year.

In the book Rip Tide, the main characture defeated the pirate, but also has to head back home.

Hero’s journey satge 9 The Reward

The reward stage is a time of closure, it gives the hero clearer meaning to what his quest has been about, and the events that preceded it. They can be ranging from romance to a deep inner knowledge, but also includes a downfall.

Purposes of the reward.

Celebration; Recap and Reflection; Romance, New Knowledge; Downfalls of Reward.

Celebration is when the hero and his/her companions can gather with friends, or even the people they might have saved, to celebrate the hero’s success in his quest.

Recap and reflection allows the hero to look past on everything that led up to that moment and either love it, hate it, or suddenly understand something that was once confusing.

Romance is the time when the hero is allowed to take the action they have fought to attain and obtain the companionship they desired.

New knowledge is unlocked within the hero by completing their quest, and is often connected to another goal of the hero, which could be eternal peace, or a rite of passage.

Downfalls of the reward, because humans aren’t perfect, neither are their rewards, the downfall can be something directly associated to what the hero was seeking out, or just an ego obtained from conquering uneven odds.

Hero’s Journey stage 8- The Ordeal

The symbolic death and rebirth of the hero is the means to create a dividing point in the story, on one side the hero is wandering around clueless to what he has to do, on the other everything is obvious and clear.

1.In Darkstar One, a young pilot whose father was killed in a fight, on the day that his training was completed the advanced fighter that his father left him is unveiled. When he showed that he was ready, the fact that his father’s ship was sabotaged and that it was done by a traitor, is shown to him by his guardian, this made it clear to him that he has to hunt down his father’s murderer and avenge him.

2. The book Dresden files, follows a wizard when the mother of his daughter finds him after ten years, she asks him to save their daughter. But in order to do this he has to sell his soul in order to gain the power to destroy her captors, when he is transformed into the Right Hand of Mab, he has a epiphany and understands his objectives.

3. In the movie Hellboy, Hellboy inner demon is brought out, by his purpose of creation, to unlock the door to Armageddon, is revealed. His symbolic death is represented by his will to resist the demon and defeat the people who tried to enslave him.

Heri’s journey stage 6

The myth structure is usually centered around a quest, and they will test the hero and his resolve, they will reveal his character and how he deals with things.

Allies are often found along the way and they always offer some sort of help to him.

Sidekicks are adverse characters that will provide comic relief, a voice of conscious, and sometimes mentorship.

The foreign domain is where his adversaries are, they do not give him a warm welcome and they do not appreciate the hero’s meddling.

Rivals are other people who compete with the hero in the same common goal.

Hero’s journey stage 5

Though the mentor gave the hero what he needs to defeat the villain, sometimes he can’t provide enough reason to strike out on his own with everyone of his allies powerless beside him. The threshold guardian is an obstacle that could be anything from a person to a wall, that stops the hero and attempts to shake his faith in whether or not his quest is what he wants for himself. The leap of faith is the action the hero takes to show that he is done running and is ready to take on the challenge. In the movie Eragon, he has to mount Saphira leaving his dead uncle, and his home behind. In the book Bone, Bone has to leave the valley to try and save his king
